Lucia’s Pizza & Spaghetti Bar is located along the western wall of the Central Market and is iconic in the hearts of South Australians. It was here, that in 1957 Lucia Rosella, the mother of current owners Nicci Bugeja and Maria Rosella, first served pizza in Adelaide. The spirit of Lucia Rosella lingers and her generosity and love of food remains the philosophy of this family business.

Fifty years of tradition Lucia’s Pizzeria & Spaghetti Bar continues much as it did when it first opened some 50 years ago. It is a South Australian institution loved by all their loyal regulars.

Home–style Italian cooking at its best and fantastic coffee is the base of Lucia’s. Breakfast, pizza, pasta with their famous sauces, wonderful fresh salads and Adelaide’s best selection of small sweet things.

Try a market breakfast complete with spinach, mushrooms and their wonderful white beans cooked in their own tomato sauce. On Thursday and Friday enjoy the specials created by their kitchen. Perhaps an Osso Bucco with Polenta, Some lamb chops cooked in a special way or their wonderful Lasagne that specials on these days.

The generosity of the food is legendary. Healthy, fresh seasonal food, doesn’t happen in seconds, but there isn’t a better salad in the market precinct. The food at the pizza bar is generous and traditional old–style Italian cooking, but is typical of market restaurants throughout the world. Fresh! Fresh, yes and seasonal, with such an abundance of good food on their doorstep it is little wonder seasonality has such a strong influence on the cooking of the chefs at Lucia’s.

Many artists have found their footing from the walls of Lucia’s. Often it is the work of staff and friends or sometimes an emerging artist who might be a customer, but there is always something unique about the art that is both charming and relevant to Lucia’s.
